Update on COVID-19 (Wuhan Coronavirus)

COVID-19 Situation Update #2 Kathmandu, March 3, 2020 Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) would like to apprise all concerned about the series of measures implemented by the Government of Nepal to reduce imported cases and the community transmission of the COVID19 (Wuhan Coronavirus) in Nepal. The Government of Nepal is monitoring the spread of Corona Virus (COVID-19). Taking into account the global recommendations and measure of the WHO, Government of Nepal has decided to temporarily suspend visa-on-arrival for the nationals of the following countries, effective from March 10, 2020 to till the date of further notice: People’s Republic of China, including Special Administrative Regions Islamic Republic of Iran Italy Republic of Korea Japan However, those wanting to travel to Nepal can obtain visa beforehand from the Nepal Mission abroad. Applicants in these countries are required to submit a recently issued health certificate with the visa application. Nepal awarded the OLTA as a Solo Travel Destination

Nepal was awarded the Outlook Traveller Awards (OLTA) as a Solo Travel Destination in the Readers’ Survey Categories. Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, CEO of Nepal Tourism Board, received the award at his office from Mr. Peeush Srivastava, Vice President of International Division of Outlook Group, on Feb. 27, 2020. Situation update on NCOVID in Nepal

COVID-19 Situation Update #1 Kathmandu | 26th February, 2020 This is to bring you all the updates on the current status of Nepal regarding the threat of the Wuhan Coronavirus (COVID 19). Ministry of Health Government of Nepal has confirmed the only “positive” case registered so far has been a Nepali national, who is now fully recovered. He has been discharged from the hospital within the week once the last observations on the test results were done. (Source: Ministry of Health, Government of Nepal) To date, besides the above-mentioned case no other Nepali or citizen of another country has been identified as being infected by the virus. (Source: Ministry of Health – Government of Nepal) The 175 university students and Nepali nationals who were brought to Nepal on 14th of February 2020, from Wuhan, China, were sent to the special quarantine unit away from human settlements with all modern testing and monitoring facilities. They will remain in quarantine for 2 weeks before their discharge. So far none of them have shown signs of the infection nor confirmed as being infected by the virus. “A Nepal Evening” organized in Nicosia, Cyprus, to promote the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign

The Embassy of Nepal, Israel in coordination with Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), the Hon. Consul of Cyprus and the NRNA organized the First ever “Nepal Evening” to promote the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign in Nicosia, Cyprus on 14th February 2020. This year is also the 40th Anniversary of Diplomatic reactions between Nepal and Cyprus. The Government of Nepal and the NTB is exploring new markets to aggressively promote the VNY Campaign. The Honorable Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation of Nepal Mr. Yogesh Bhattarai and H. E. Nepal stall won Best Stall Award at OTM, Mumbai

Nepal Tourism Board along with 19 private companies participated at Outbound Tourism Market (OTM) Mumbai from Feb. 3-5, with special focus on Visit Nepal Year 2020. Nepal stall won Best Stall Award for thematic execution of destination brand image along with pagoda and traditional style. In order to make more publicity and awareness for Nepal, specially designed cotton bags with VNY logo were distributed from organizers desk to trade visitors, the advertisement was carried out in a trade magazine, billboards were displayed at the premise of the venue and Nepal was accorded one of the partner country status. Nepal stall was also visited by Tourism Minister of Uttarakhand Mr. Satpal Maharaj and Tourism Minister of Greece Mr. Harris Theocharis among other visitors. The fair is considered to be one of the largest trade exhibition in Asia pacific which not only opens a network with trade visitors, corporate houses but also provide immense avenues for updates on latest trends and practices with parallel sessions on digital marketing, cinema tourism, wedding, MICE and sustainable tourism practices. Press Release: Briefing on Corona Virus

PRESS RELEASE Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020 Kathmandu A briefing on Novel Corona Virus in the presence of Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai was held on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020. Present in the meeting were Tourism Secretary Kedar Bahadur Adhikari, NTB CEO Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, high level Government officials, presidents and representatives of tourism and airlines associations of Nepal. Joint Secretary of Ministry of Health Dr. Sagar Dahal gave a presentation on the latest updates of the symptoms, spread of the virus in China and other parts of the world and the measures taken by Government of Nepal to contain the disease. Newly Appointed CEO of NTB Dr. Dhananjay Regmi Assumes Office

Newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) Dr. Dhananjay Regmi, assumed his office today, Jan. 30, 2020. NTB officials welcomed Dr. Regmi as the new CEO amidst a program at office premises, Bhrikutimandap. Dr. Regmi, an eminent mountain geomorphologist and glaciologist of Nepal, obtained his Ph D in Environmental Earth Science from Hokkaido University, Japan, and post doctoral degree from Arizona University, USA. He worked as Adjunct Professor in the Central Department of Geography and Environmental Science at the Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu, and has been working in the field of climate change since 2007. Dr. Regmi also served as Chairperson of Himalayan Research Expedition (HRE), Himalayan Research Center (HRC) and Vice-Chairperson of Kathmandu-based Nepal Geographical Society. Well known tourism entrepreneur and an expert on glacier lake, Dr. Regmi has published several international papers on tourism, glacier lakes, mountains and climate change issues. To study and analyze negative effects of 2019-nCoV, a meeting was held recently by the Ministry of Health and Population in the presence of Rt. Hon’ble Prime Minister of Nepal. The meeting called for coordination among stakeholders for high precaution against 2019-nCoV. Following the same, a meeting was called among major tourism stakeholders by Hon’ble Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai on Jan. 27, 2020, to discuss further on the impact of 2019-nCoV on the ongoing national tourism campaign Visit Nepal 2020; particularly with regard to precautions to be taken, awareness generation among general public, and coordination to mitigate of the impact of 2019-nCoV.
