Yak Ru ®
1ˢᵗ to 13ᵗʰ April

Are you a passionate lover of mountain biking? If so, then Yak Ru ® is for you. Join the toughest mountain biking race in the world: Yak Ru ® - Annapurna Challenge '17, Nepal’s premier mountain biking race, scheduled April 1-13. The starting point of the ride is Besi Sahar, Lamjung district, while the end point is Kagbeni, Mustang, in the Annapurna Circuit. The 5-stage race has categories overall for men and women.

Yak Ru ® is among few of the toughest staged races in the world, covering a distance of 240 Km and reaching an altitude of 5,416 m in just 5 cycling days. There will be 5 stages of the race and one rest day in between at a high-altitude location to allow better acclimatization before ascending to the 5,416 m Thorong La pass.

Participants will enjoy two more days of group ride after the competition ends at an altitude of 3,700 m. The group ride along the spectacular semi-desert like terrain of the legendary Mustang valley gives the participants a bonus tour opportunity after taking part in the world’s toughest mountain biking race. A dip at the hot spring of Tatopani towards the end of the competition will probably be the highlight for many.

Yak Ru ® is an extreme mountain biking race that requires you to be prepared physically and mentally. You will encounter all nasty things Mother Nature could throw at you such as extreme cold weather, rain, snow blizzards, heat and dust.  The Annapurna terrain will test your wits to the max as you negotiate the slippery icy tracks while carrying your bike in the darkness during the wee hours of the morning to cross the high pass.

Yak Ru’s fourth year in 2016 attracted top national riders. With more bikers joining it, the 2017 race is expected to be tougher with  more versatile riders. Yak Ru ® has also already started getting signups for its 2017 race one year in advance. This shows the race’s popularity around the world among the endurance mountain biker communities.
