Rara Karnali Tourism Year is being observed from coming Baisakh 1 of the year 2075 in the lunar calendar. It was disclosed in a press conference being held in Kathmandu on March 22, 2018.
The tourism year is being observed in order to highlight the history, culture, civilization and natural beauty of Karnali with the target of increasing the tourist arrival in the province to 500,000 in 2075, according to Publicity Coordinator and Hon’ble Minister for Social Development Mr. Dal Rawal at a press meet organized by the Karnali Provincial Government. The tourist arrival so far in the region is 50,000 annually.
The press meet was addressed by Chief Minister of Province No 6 (Karnali Pradesh) Hon’ble Mr. Mahendra Bahadur Shahi, Minister for Social Development Mr. Dal Rawal, Minister of Tourism Mr. Nanda Singh Budha and CEO of Nepal Tourism Board Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi.
Despite being the best tourism destination of Nepal, it has yet to become a major tourist attraction due to the lack of essential infrastructure and amenities, said Minister Mr. Rawal, while noting that efforts would be made to address those shortcomings. Karnali is a heaven of spectacular natural and cultural beauty with Rara Lake, Rara National Park, Phoksundu Lake, Bala Tripurasundari Temple, Kakrebihar, and is also the origin of Nepal’s 23 castes.
Majority of the participants on the occasion stressed on increasing access to transportation service first in order to bring in the targeted number of tourists into the province. The Cabinet meeting of Karnali Province had earlier decided to observe the upcoming Nepali year as Rara - Karnali Visit Year - 2075.
The first meeting of the cabinet earlier had also decided to introduce Karnali Province as a tourist destination with the beginning of the new year. The provincial government is also preparing to inaugurate Rara Festival on Baisakh 1 — The Nepali New Year.
