Everest Summitters felicitated in London


The four-day long global travel and tourism exchange platform -World Tourism Market(WTM) concluded in London on November 7, 2013 with a huge business deal and renewal of networking. Nepal Tourism Board together with 17 Nepalese tourism companies participated in the WTM which witnessed the participation of 189 countries with more than 5000 exhibitors and 50000 participants facilitating 2 billion GBP industry deals this year. WTM 2013 also remained an ideal platform for hot tourism discussions to sharing views and experiences on current global travel trend, travel technology and best practices to what was in and out of tourism trends.


The Nepal Stand at WTM 2013 with an area of 131 sq. meters and thematic intricate wood carving of Nepali Pagoda style temple adorned with Buddhist prayer flags attracted and welcomed the global tourism professionals to the stall. Travel trade companies from Nepal also renewed their business contacts and made business deal, and spread their networkings. The Nepalese delegation at WTM 2013 was led by the Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation, Mr. Sushil Ghimire.



Earlier, Nepal Tourism Board in co-ordination with the Embassy of Nepal in London organized Nepal Evening function at the Embassy of Nepal, London on 5th November 2013 to mark the Diamond Jubilee Celebration of Mt. Everest-2013 and to felicitate record holder British Everest summiteers .


The program was graced and addressed by chief guest, Secretary at Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation and Chairman Nepal Tourism Board, Mr. Sushil Ghimire, His Excellency Dr. Suresh Chandra Chalise - Ambassador to UK from Nepal, Acting CEO of Nepal Tourism Board - Mr. Subash Nirola along with the Everest summiteers Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Mr. Alan Hinkes, Mr. Kenton Cool, Mr. David Hemplemans Adams .


Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mr. Sushil Ghimire reiterated that Nepal was always a safe, beautiful and tourist friendly destination for the visitors and also cited the urgency of mitigating the impact of climate change and the garbage problem in the Himalayas. He also focused on tourism investment opportunities in Nepal. At the function, His Excellency Ambassador of Nepal for UK, Dr. Suresh Chandra Chalise shared his views on the importance of such frequent tourism programs in UK, thanked the summiteers for promoting Nepal through mountaineering and highlighted the age old relationships between the two countries. Likewise, Acting CEO of Nepal Tourism Board Mr. Subash Nirola shed light on the steady growth of visitors to Nepal, its greatest tourism attributes - nature, culture, adventure and many more making it a complete holiday getaway. He stressed on the need of close coordination between Nepal Embassy, Nepal Tourism Board and travel trade fraternity both from UK and Nepal for tourism promotion in UK. Mr. Nirola thanked the mountaineers for promoting Nepalese tourism and highlighted on the good air connectivity between London and Kathmandu. During the function, renowned British summiteers Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Mr. Alan Hinkes, Mr. Kenton Cool, Mr. David Helplemans Adams were honoured with medals of Mt. Everest Diamond Jubilee and felicitated jointly by Secretary of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation , His Excellency Ambassador to UK from Nepal and Acting CEO of Nepal Tourism Board. A gathering of about 100 British tour operators, media persons and Nepalese Diaspora attended the function.
