With the objective of making the tourism sector more productive, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) held a meeting between the Commercial and Marketing department of both the Organization yesterday on Tuesday, June 2nd. The meeting chaired by NTB CEO Dr. Dhananjay Regmi discussed on the areas and markets where NTB and NAC could work together for Nepal’s tourism promotion. Mr. Diwakar Rana-Sr. Manager, NTB gave a brief presentation on the previous joint activities and possible way forward. Officials from both the sides affirmed on working together and expressed readiness to act immediately on the partnership. At a time when the country is battling against the global pandemic Covid-19 and struggling to emerge again in the industry, the meeting has been taken to be promising. The meeting decided on both parties going into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) soon which will guide for further collaborations. The two government bodies which are under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation MOCTCA, have worked together in many signature campaigns and joint promotions, the recent being the repatriation flights arranged for the stranded tourists, in assistance of many other government bodies and concerned embassies.

Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) CEO Dr. Dhananjay Regmi interacted with Nepali Professors working in North American universities to discuss Nepal’s Tourism in the Post COVID-19 Era on Friday evening, May 8, 2020. Professor Gyan Neupane from Arizona State University, Professor Sanjay Nepal from Canada’s University of Waterloo, Professor Brijesh Thapa from the University of Florida, were online on Zoom to share their views on Nepal’s tourism priorities henceforth with CEO Dr. Regmi. They stressed on moving towards sustainable and quality tourism with a benchmark for hygiene and sanitation in the post-crisis period to gain back consumer confidence. Mindful tourism, economic stimulation package, quality livelihood were some of the concepts put forward for “reshaping, rethinking and redesigning” of tourism in these changing times. As per suggestion, consideration of diaspora, domestic, and distance (close proximity neighbors) markets should be given maximum focus post the crisis. An interaction and awareness program on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) status in Nepal was organized for the private sector tourism industry of Nepal by the Department of Tourism in coordination with Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). The program was focused on giving information including facts and figures related to COVID-19. According to the Director-General of the Department of Tourism, Nepal has adopted all precautionary and safety measures to contain the virus and stay updated on the matter. He said so far only one person tested positive for Corona Virus, and the person was quarantined and released only after he tested negative. There have been no further cases to date, as per the official information. Similarly, safety measures and screening process are ongoing and intact at entry points and the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), while the Sukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital in Teku is well-equipped to handle if such cases should be registered. The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) held a meeting with the Presidents and representatives of Travel Trade Association of Nepal along with other line institutions of MoCTCA at the Ministry Amid to address the ongoing crisis created with the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and to understand the plight faced by the respective stakeholders in order to tackle the crisis together. The meeting also dwelt on the effect of the miscommunication and colossal spread of rumors regarding the disease and emphasized the need for authentic information dissemination from the concerned body only. 1. The Netherlands Nepal made its colourful presence in this year’s Vakantiebeurs 2020, a travel fair organized in Jaarbeurs, Utrecht, the Netherlands from 15 to 19 January 2020. Vakantiebuers, one of the prominent travel fairs in Europe, witnessed its 50th anniversary this year. According to the organizer the show was attended by 1106 exhibitors from 124 countries. In the 5-day long fair the first day was allocated for the travel trade participants whereas the rest of the four days were open for the consumers. Nepal’s participation in the fair was led by Nepal Tourism Board along with the seven travel trade companies from Nepal. Along with the showcase of the products and the destinations, the major highlight of the Nepal was Visit Nepal 2020 campaign. Besides the exhibition, some other sideline events were also organized in the program venue to give additional visibility to Nepal. Nepal bagged best decoration award at a recently concluded Chennai Travel and Tourism Fair (TTF), from 24-26th January 2020. TTF is the biggest travel show network in India being organised since the last 30 years. Nepal Tourism Board participated in Chennai TTF with 11 travel-trade sectors. Mr. Sanjay Shreevats, Regional Director, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, inaugurated the fair and visited Nepal stall where he was given Nepalese souvenir and was apprised about Nepalese tourism products by Nepal Tourism Board officials.
