NTB Coordinates with China Southern Airlines for Promotion of Nepal TourismTuesday, August 1st, 2017
GUANZHOU, China, July 7, 2017 - A training for the staff of China Southern Airlines was conducted by Mr. Sarad Pradhan, Media Consultant of Nepal Tourism Board in Guangzhou, China on July 7, 2017, in the headquarters of the airlines.
He made a detailed presentation on the travel information of Nepal to the staff from sales department and e-commerce department who are involved in travel product design and package. There were around 20 staff present during the presentation. He extensively briefed them for more than two hours on the different facts of Nepal’s tourism. They asked him many questions regarding post earthquake tourism recovery and heritage reconstruction. He also showed four promotional videos of Nepal’s tourism in the presentation. The staff who were present included Mr. Alex Cheng, Project Manager, Mr. Eric Huang, Senior Project Manager, and Mr. Jeff Zhang, Deputy Director, Passenger Sales Division.
He also explored possibilities of doing familiarization tour with travel agencies and media with China Southern Airlines and joint roadshow promotions, destination training in China. He also attended a tourism promotion program called Promoting Tourism in Nepal: Birthplace of Sakyamuni Buddha on July 8 organised by Consulate General of Nepal in Guangzhou. This program was attended by the high officials of local government of Guangzhou, NRN and others related with tourism. He also met with Mr. Ravi Bhattarai, Consul General of Nepal, during the visit.
In Shanghai, he met Hon. Consul of Nepal in Shanghai Mr. Jianming Wu and briefed him about Nepal’s tourism promotional effort. Mr. Wu suggested that the traditional ways of promotion like B2B and sales missions were not effective in Shanghai and requested to think about promoting it through B2C approach like promoting in subways and shopping malls. Mr. Wu said since young people of Shanghai are now exploring the destination by themselves, it would help them to find the right adventure they are looking for.
He also met the Chairman of First Sino Union Group Limited- Mr. David Cham. This group sends high-end pilgrims from China to Nepal for Lumbini. Mr. Cham showed interest to promote Vesaka Day in Lumbini and wanted to extend financial support to develop Lumbini. This group also showed interest in investing in tourism in Nepal. In another meeting, he met the producer of Travel with CEO- a travel TV show. The group he met showed interest to come to Nepal for shooting.
He also made courtesy call to Mr. Patrick Chen, Deputy Director, International Tourism Promotion Department, Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration. Mr. Chen showed keen interest in promoting Nepal’s tourism in Shanghai and suggested that Nepal should take part in Shanghai World Trade Fair to be taken place on April every year. He said 5 million Chinese traveled outside from Shanghai only and most of them are high-end tourists.
Nepal received 54,090 tourists from China in last six months in 2017. There are seven flights a day between Kathmandu and different cities of China.
