Grand Nepal Show at TTF Kolkata 2016Tuesday, July 19th, 2016

KOLKATA, India, July 11, 2016 - Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) along with four travel companies from Nepal namely Fishtail Tours & Travels Pvt. Ltd., Nebuti Travels (P.) Ltd. Red Carpet Tours & Travels Pvt. Ltd. and Satyam Tours & Travels (P.) Ltd. participated in Travel & Tourism Fair (TTF)-Kolkata, India from 8 to 10 July 2016. Nepal’s effort in the fair was to reconnect the travel industry of Nepal to the India market and hence to regain more tourists from India. TTF is India’s largest travel trade show that provides a marketing platform and opportunity for exhibitors and is the best place for networking, face-to-face meeting and building a business partnership under one roof. The fair was inaugurated by Tourism Minister of West Bengal Mr. Goutam Deb. He visited Nepal stall and was offered souvenir and promotional materials of Nepal.

Nepal’s focus in TTF was to communicate fresh updates about the destinations to the market and to disseminate positive message among travel tour operators and consumers. Hundreds of travel trade people and more than 5 thousands visitors visited Nepal Stall at TTF and showed their concern over safety and security after earthquake in Nepal. They also put queries on air and road connectivity, border formalities, road condition, package tours, trekking in Everest region, Annapurna region, Taplejung, Manaslu and pilgrimage tour to Manasarowar.

Travelers’Information, Tourist Map and other promotional materials were distributed from Nepal Stall during the 3 days fair. The participating private companies had B2B interactions with the local travel companies visiting Nepal Stall. They offered attractive mountaineering, trekking and site seeing packages to lure consumers.

During the fair day on 8th evening, Nepal Tourism Board with assistance of TTF organizer, organized a special program “Travel Trade Interaction & Press Meet” in The Peerless Inn Hotel to disseminate a message that Nepal’s tourism is back to business after devastating earthquake of April 2015 and everything is in order. Consul General of Nepal in Kolkata Mr. Ek Narayan Aryal in his remarks highlighted the natural beauty and cultural richness of Nepal. Being a neighboring country, he requested Indians to visit Nepal- a value destination.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sudarsan Prasad Dhakal, Director General, Department of Tourism, Nepal mentioned that Government of Nepal has already started reconstruction of heritage sites of tourist attractions. He also tried to assure the audience by ascertaining that Government of Nepal has given high priority on safety and security of the tourists. He disclosed that with the objective of bringing in one million tourists, Government of Nepal has announced the year 2018 as Visit Nepal Year.

Ms. Ujjwala Dali, Officiating Director, Tourism Marketing & Promotion at NTB tried to draw the attention of travel and media people and appealed them for more promotion of Nepal and send tourists from West Bengal. She had a power point presentation on “Nepal Now” featuring the present tourism scenario and activities. During the presentation, montage on Nepal promotion was screened. More than 100 travel trade and media people from Kolkata were present in the program.

Kolkata is the third wealthiest city in India after Mumbai and Delhi, with a unique tradition of taking domestic and outbound trips in large numbers, during Puja holidays (October 2016). Air India operates 4 flights a week between Kolkata and Kathmandu.
